black Greyhound

Bonnie is a lovely black ex-racing greyhound who was born June 2008. She is house trained, spayed, inoculated, microchipped and weighs 26.4k. Shortly after she arrived she had a dental when 3 loose teeth were removed and the rest cleaned.
Bonnie is a very happy girl who is always wagging her tail, wanting cuddles and playing with her toys and tennis balls. She is a very affectionate girl who walks nicely on the lead and travels well in the car. She appears okay with larger breeds of dogs, but still needs more socialising with the smaller ones. - Can you help us find her a new home?

Black Greyhound

Nero is a big handsome black greyhound who is very affectionate and friendly, loves coming to say hello and going for a walk. He also travels well in a car.
Nero was born in February 2012, weighs 35.3k, is house trained, neutered, inoculated and microchipped.
Nero only trialed once before breaking his leg. This has been repaired, he's had physio and he's fine to be re-homed, but he is unable to sustain the pressures of a racing track again, so he is looking for his forever home .- Can you help us find him a new home?

Brindle Greyhound

Becky is a beautiful fawn brindle ex-racing greyhound who was born on the 2nd May 2004. Although 10 years old she is fit and well and doesn't look her age.
Becky is house trained, speyed, inoculated and has recently had a dental She lived with an elderly gentleman for a few months, but was sadly returned to 'Rescue' because of the deterioration of her owner's health. Rather than her going back into kennels we are fostering her until she finds her forever home where she can be loved, cared for and be enjoyed during her twilight years.
Becky walks nicely on the lead, is calm, and suffers no anxiety issues when left on her own. She is okay with children and other breeds of dogs. - Can you help us find her a new home?

white & black Greyhound

Snowy is a white and black ex-racing greyhound who was born on the 1st August 2009. He is house trained, microchipped, inoculated and weighs 34.5 kg.
Snowy walks well on the lead, but is a little shy when you first put the lead on, once on, he is fine and enjoys his walks. He is a very quiet, loving dog, and a real gentleman. We re-homed his a litter brother Rocky earlier.
Snowy is our Lena's uncle and he used to be kennelled with Bonnie.
Re-homed: Saturday 11th October 2014

Black greyhound

Lizzy is a black ex-racing greyhound who was born in August 2010. She weighs about 29k, is a really happy, friendly, playful girl who loves to play and be cuddled, and is house trained, spayed, inoculated and microchipped.
Lizzy , is okay with other breedsof dogs, but because of her happy and playful disposition we tend to allow them to meet with her wearing a muzzle in case the other dog(s) mistake her playfullness and over enthusiasm for something else. She is good with children and travels well in the car.
Re-homed: Saturday 11th October 2014

Black and white greyhound

Purdie is a small black and white greyhound who is just 2 1/2 years old. She is 25 1/2" tall, weighs 27.4k, good on the lead and very affectionate once she gets to know you. Purdie is house trained, spayed, inoculated and microchipped.
Having had a go at racing she decided it just wasn't her style so she came into rescue to find her forever home. Purdie was re-homed for a few weeks, but found it difficult to settle into her new enviroment and the lifestyle of her new owner because of her shyness.
Re-homed: Monday 13th October 2014

Black Greyhound

Toby is a black ex-racing greyhound who was born in September 2011 and weighs 35.2k. He is house trained, neutered and inoculated.
Toby is a gentle, lovely dog who we've been told gets on fine with his previous owner/trainers Patterdale Terrier, but we are not sure what he is like with other breeds of dogs he does not yet know. This we will be monitoring. - Can you help us find him a new home?

Bess
(RESERVED)
Bess is a pretty blue ex-racing greyhound who weighs 25k Just 3 years old she came into 'rescue' because although very good on the track she decided she didn't want to race anymore and would no long come out of the trap when the race started.
Bess is house trained, spayed, inoculated and microchipped. She is a friendly girl who was previously kennelled with a lurcher and appears to be okay with other breeds of dogs. She walks nicely on the lead and travels well in a car.

Carly
(Cat Friendly)
Carly is a beautiful black ex-racing Greyhound who has a lovely affectionate nature. She is very laid back and happy for other dogs to lay next to her. She walks nicely on the lead and travels well in the car.
Carly is house trained, spayed, inoculated and microchipped.
Re-homed: Sunday 12th October 2014

Beckham

He has a lovely nature and travels well in the car. - Can you help us find him a new home?

White & black greyhound

Jack

Jack is a white and black ex-racing greyhound who was born in September 2011 and weighs about 32k.

Tam is a long-term foster dog

Black and white Greyhound

Tam because of his age (born 6th September 2002) is now living in a long-term foster home with Donna and Ric and their labrador called Milo and greyhound called Josh. Here he will stay being loved and spoilt during his twilight years.

ABOUT US:
We've had greyhounds since April 1997 and between July 2004 and November 2009 we fostered 82 greyhounds for Dumfriesshire and Cumbria Greyhound Rescue. At the beginning of December 2009 we began fostering for the Retired Greyhound Trust (RGT) and established their SOUTH LAKES branch. We have now fostered in excess of 300.
Being in the South Lakes we are situated at the southern end of the English Lake District in Cumbria at Witherslack, which is half way between Kendal and Grange-over-Sands. As fosterers it is our passion to help greyhounds through the transition stage from kennels to home life, helping them to adapt to the family way of life and being part of our family until they find their forever homes .

WHY ADOPT A GREYHOUND?

Greyhounds make wonderful pets. They are for life, not just for racing. They all deserve a second chance. Greyhounds are elegent, very intelligent, tend to be laid back,
lazy if given the chance, need little exercise, often just two, half hour walks a day. Greyhounds thrive on love and affection, adapt quickly to the family way of life and make very gentle and loyal pets.

Over 40,000 Greyhounds are bred each year in the UK and Ireland and thousands of Greyhound puppies and youngsters are put to sleep because they don't make the grade for racing. The average age of a Greyhound coming into 'Rescue' is 3 to 4 years old when they are no longer needed. However, the normal life expectancy of a Greyhound is between 12 and 15 years - the longest living of the larger breeds of dog means they have many years ahead of them once they are no longer needed for racing Only a very small percentage are the lucky ones who are re-homed.

ARE YOU ABLE TO FOSTER A
GREYHOUND
FOR US?

Fosterers are an invaluable part of greyhound rescue in that another greyhound is living life away from the kennels and taking the first steps to getting used to the family way of life. If you live in the South Lakes or the surrounding area and would like to foster a greyhound until it finds a new home.
please telephone:
Jenny or Stuart on 015395 52394 or email us for more information.

TINS & CARTONS OF DOG FOOD WANTED
(also pilchards in tomato sauce, sardines and tuna in oil
,
dog biscuits, Dentastix
and rawhide chews)

If anyone would like to donate tins or cartons of dog meat or tinned pilchards and sardines for the greyhounds in our keeping until they find good homes we would be most grateful. Although we feed them a 'complete' greyhound food, tinned and cartons of dog meat gives variety to their diet along with gravy bones, dog biscuits, Dentastix and rawhide chews. May we thank all of you who have made a donation - it is much appreciated and the greyhounds love it!

Please telephone Jenny or Stuart on 015395 52394

Lena came into our lives
on the 23rd May 2013.
She is a beautiful greyhound
with a sweet nature, and not
quite 2 years old she was not
wanted because she didn't
make the grade for racing.
She raced headlong into our
hearts and home. Having just
lost Meg she is a little
girl to keep Indi company
in her old age.

FOSTERING GREYHOUNDS
IS OUR MEMORIAL TO OUR
DARLING
PENNY
who died
in February 2004 aged nearly
12½ years old.

Fawn Lurcher
George introduced us to the world
of hounds. He arrived in April 1997
and was about 9 years old when
he was rescued. He had been
badly treated and sadly we only
had him 3½ months when he died.
He was our first true love and he
was our 'Gentleman George'.
