FOSTERING GREYHOUNDS FOR RGT
GREYHOUND RESCUE IN CUMBRIA

LATEST NEWS
Greyhounds make wonderful pets.
They are for life, not just for racing and they all deserve a second chance.
Greyhounds are elegent, very intelligent, laid back, lazy and need little exercise.
They thrive on love and affection, adapt quickly to the family way of life and make very gentle and loyal pets

Brindle greyound

Our 84th fostered Greyhound is Dakota who was born on the 25th November 2002 making him 7 years old. He is brindle in colour, house trained, neutered, inoculated and microchipped. Dakota has been living in a home since December 2007 but sadly came back into 'Rescue'. He is a very loveable chap who thinks he's still two years old not seven. He walks nicely on the lead and travels well in the car - can you help us find him a new home?

Our 88th fostered Greyhound is arriving shortly - can you help us find him or her a new home?

Over 40,000 Greyhounds are bred each year in the UK and Ireland and thousands of Greyhound puppies and youngsters are put to sleep because they don't reach the grade. The average age of a working Greyhound is 3 to 4 years old when they are no longer needed and the normal life expectancy of a Greyhound is around 12 to 14 years. A very small percentage are re-homed - the top ten reasons for adopting a Greyhound.

Between July 2004 and November 2009 we fostered 82 Greyhounds for Dumfriesshire & Cumbria Greyhound Rescue. From the beginning of December 2009 we started fostering Greyhounds for the RGT (Retired Greyhound Trust) and we are known as RGT SOUTH LAKES as we are situated at the southern end of the English Lake District in Cumbria. As fosterers we see it as our responsibility to house train and help them to adapt to the family way of life, staying with us and being part of our family until they find their forever homes.

George arrived in April 1997 and was about 9 years
old when he was rescued. He had been badly treated
and sadly we only had him 3½ months when he died,
which devastated us. He was our first true and the
one who introduced us to hounds. He was our
'Gentleman George' and we were devistated when he died.

Fostering Greyhounds is our memorial to our darling
Penny who died when she was nearly 12½ years old.

Lester
was our 24th foster dog
who we fostered for quite a
while because of his fear of
people. Here he is sitting in
the garden on the 17th April
2006 and the first place he
went to when he came back
to visit us in July 2009
