White and black greyhound

Jack is a stunning white and black ex-racing greyhound who was born on the 1st September 2011. He's quite a tall dog and weighs about 32k - he's very handsome and walks like a dressage pony - very stunning to watch.
Jack is house trained, neutered, inoculated and microchipped. A quiet, happy dog with a nice, gentle nature who walks perfectly on his lead, is okay with children, loves playing with his toys and travels well in the car.
Not having been socialised with other breeds of dogs while younger or in his racing kennels he can be a little anxious if they come too close and invade his personal space. He is fine if they are kept at a distance

and his socialisation has progressed to the point where he is happy to watch them so long as they don't come too close.
Jack was re-homed in March 2015, but came back after 3 weeks because there were too many chickens, sheep and lambs near his new home who caused both Jack and his new owner anxiety. We are now looking for his perfect forever home and one where his new owners will continue to work with him in helping him understand that not all dogs are there to hurt him. - Can you help us find him that home?

Black Greyhound

Ebony is a black ex-racing greyhound who has a beautiful nature. She was born on the 1st June 2011 and weighs 28.8k. She is spayed, inoculated, microchipped and recently had a dental which involved no teeth extractions as was anticipated, but just a scale and polish.
Ebony is super with children, walks lovely on the lead and travels well in a car. A rather sensitive girl she likes to follow me round the garden when I'm out working and will lay close by to keep me company if I stay in one place for any length of time. - Can you help us find her a new home?

White Greyhound

Bob

Bob is a white ex-racing greyhound with a half brindle face who was born on the 9th June 2011.
He weighs 31.5k, is neutered, inoculated and microchipped.
Bob is Lena, Chrissie and Billy's litter brother who we've re-homed earlier.
Bob has a nice friendly nature, is okay with children and other breeds of dogs, including small ones, walks nicely on the lead and travels well in a car.
REHOMED: 28th July 2015

Frankie is a handsome black ex-racing greyhound who was born on the 5th November 2011. He is neutered, inoculated, microchipped and has a beautiful, friendly nature. Frankie's racing career came to a dramatic end when he fractured his back foot, and despite subsequent treatment it has healed leaving his leg looking not as it should do, although his toes are still facing forward. It was thought at first that Frankie would require orthopedic surgery to sort everything out, but upon further examination this was found not to be the case because everything is stable and healing nicely. - Can you help us find him a new home?

Tonto
(Cat trainable)

Tonto is a very handsome brindle and white greyhound who is cat trainable. Born in November 2011 he is house trained, neutered, inoculated and microchipped.

Becky went to her long-term foster home on Tuesday 18th November 2014 where she will be loved, cared for and be enjoyed during her twilight years.

ABOUT US:
We've had greyhounds since April 1997 and between July 2004 and November 2009 we fostered 82 greyhounds for Dumfriesshire and Cumbria Greyhound Rescue. At the beginning of December 2009 we began fostering for the Retired Greyhound Trust (RGT) and established their SOUTH LAKES branch. We have now fostered in excess of 300.
Being in the South Lakes we are situated at the southern end of the English Lake District in Cumbria at Witherslack, which is half way between Kendal and Grange-over-Sands. As fosterers it is our passion to help greyhounds through the transition stage from kennels to home life, helping them to adapt to the family way of life and being part of our family until they find their forever homes .

WHY ADOPT A GREYHOUND?

Greyhounds make wonderful pets. They are for life, not just for racing. They all deserve a second chance. Greyhounds are elegent, very intelligent, tend to be laid back,
lazy if given the chance, need little exercise, often just two, half hour walks a day. Greyhounds thrive on love and affection, adapt quickly to the family way of life and make very gentle and loyal pets.

Over 40,000 Greyhounds are bred each year in the UK and Ireland and thousands of Greyhound puppies and youngsters are put to sleep because they don't make the grade for racing. The average age of a Greyhound coming into 'Rescue' is 3 to 4 years old when they are no longer needed. However, the normal life expectancy of a Greyhound is between 12 and 15 years - the longest living of the larger breeds of dog means they have many years ahead of them once they are no longer needed for racing Only a very small percentage are the lucky ones who are re-homed.

ARE YOU ABLE TO FOSTER A
GREYHOUND
FOR US?

Fosterers are an invaluable part of greyhound rescue in that another greyhound is living life away from the kennels and taking the first steps to getting used to the family way of life. If you live in the South Lakes or the surrounding area and would like to foster a greyhound until it finds a new home.
please telephone:
Jenny or Stuart on 015395 52394 or email us for more information.

TINS & CARTONS OF DOG FOOD WANTED
(also pilchards in tomato sauce, sardines and tuna in oil
,
dog biscuits, Dentastix
and rawhide chews)

If anyone would like to donate tins or cartons of dog meat or tinned pilchards and sardines for the greyhounds in our keeping until they find good homes we would be most grateful. Although we feed them a 'complete' greyhound food, tinned and cartons of dog meat gives variety to their diet along with gravy bones, dog biscuits, Dentastix and rawhide chews. May we thank all of you who have made a donation - it is much appreciated and the greyhounds love it!

OUR
HOUNDS

George in 1997
George introduced us to the world of hounds. Arriving in April 1997 he had been badly treated and was about 9 years old. Sadly we only had him 3½ months when he died.
He was our first true love.
He was our
'Gentleman George'.

Bobby and Penny
Bobby and Penny arrived the
day after George died.
FOSTERING GREYHOUNDS
IS OUR MEMORIAL TO OUR
DARLING
PENNY
who died
in February 2004 aged
nearly 12½ years old.
Bobby passed away on 26th April 2009 aged 13 years 10 months.

Indi in March 2005
When Penny died Bobby
chose Indi as his new
companion and here she
is in March 2005

Fawn Greyhound
Sandy who we nicknamed
'the beast' arrrived here on
the 4th November 2007. In August 2008 we adopted him.

Solo - brindle greyhoun
Solo melted our heart the moment he walked through the door - he is the one who helped heal the wounds following Bobby's death.
Sadly Solo passed away on
the 12th February 2014 aged
7 years 9 months old.

White and black Greyhound
Lena came into our lives
on the 23rd May 2013. Not
quite 2 years old she didn't
make the grade for racing,
but she raced headlong
into our hearts and home.
