White and black greyhound

Jack is a stunning white and black ex-racing greyhound who was born on the 1st September 2011. He's quite a tall dog and weighs about 32k - he's very handsome and walks like a dressage pony - very stunning to watch.
Jack is house trained, neutered, inoculated and microchipped. A quiet, happy dog with a nice, gentle nature who walks perfectly on his lead, is okay with children, loves playing with his toys and travels well in the car.
Not having been socialised with other breeds of dogs prior to arriving here he was a little anxious if they came too close or invaded his personal space. His socialisation has

progressed to the point where he is now happy to watch them so long as they don't come too close.
Jack is no different to many other dogs (of all breeds) in that he is wary of other dogs (greyhounds, whippets and lurchers who look like greyhounds excepted), and we feel his character, loyalty and affection far outweighs this, which over time is slowly improving. - Can you help us find him that home?

Black Greyhound

Frankie is a handsome black ex-racing greyhound who was born on the 5th November 2011. He has a beautiful, friendly nature and is neutered, inoculated and microchipped. He walks nicely on the lead, travels well in a car and is okay with other breeds of dogs.
Frankie's racing career came to a dramatic end when he fractured his back foot, but everything is now stable and healing nicely. Many people coming to visit the dogs see Frankie's leg especially if he decides to hop instead of walk that they fail to see the lovely dog he really is - he's super. - Can you help us find him a new home?

Ned - Black Greyhound

Ned

Ned is a lovely black ex-racing Greyhound who was born on the 10th August 2010.
Ned is a very friendly, affectionate lad who loves nothing better that sleeping on our bed and cuddling up! He has a little tuft of hair on the top of his head and Is house trained, neutered, inoculated and microchipped.
Ned walks nicely on the lead and loves travelling in a car, but can be wary of other dogs while out walking due to being attacked by two off lead labradoodles before arriving here. - Can you help us find him a new home?

Maya is a young black ex-racing greyhound who was born in July 2013. She is a happy girl with a lovely playful nature and loves her soft toys.
Maya is microchipped, spayed, inoculated and walks lovely on the lead, she travels well in a car.

Becky went to her long-term foster home on Tuesday 18th November 2014 where she will be loved, cared for and be enjoyed during her twilight years.

ABOUT US:
We've had greyhounds since April 1997 and between July 2004 and November 2009 we fostered 82 greyhounds for Dumfriesshire and Cumbria Greyhound Rescue. At the beginning of December 2009 we began fostering for the Retired Greyhound Trust (RGT) and established their SOUTH LAKES branch. We have now fostered in excess of 300.
Being in the South Lakes we are situated at the southern end of the English Lake District in Cumbria at Witherslack, which is half way between Kendal and Grange-over-Sands. As fosterers it is our passion to help greyhounds through the transition stage from kennels to home life, helping them to adapt to the family way of life and being part of our family until they find their forever homes .

WHY ADOPT A GREYHOUND?

Greyhounds make wonderful pets. They are for life, not just for racing. They all deserve a second chance. Greyhounds are elegent, very intelligent, tend to be laid back,
lazy if given the chance, need little exercise, often just two, half hour walks a day. Greyhounds thrive on love and affection, adapt quickly to the family way of life and make very gentle and loyal pets.

Over 40,000 Greyhounds are bred each year in the UK and Ireland and thousands of Greyhound puppies and youngsters are put to sleep because they don't make the grade for racing. The average age of a Greyhound coming into 'Rescue' is 3 to 4 years old when they are no longer needed. However, the normal life expectancy of a Greyhound is between 12 and 15 years - the longest living of the larger breeds of dog means they have many years ahead of them once they are no longer needed for racing Only a very small percentage are the lucky ones who are re-homed.

ARE YOU ABLE TO FOSTER A
GREYHOUND
FOR US?

Fosterers are an invaluable part of greyhound rescue in that another greyhound is living life away from the kennels and taking the first steps to getting used to the family way of life. If you live in the South Lakes or the surrounding area and would like to foster a greyhound until it finds a new home.
please telephone:
Jenny or Stuart on 015395 52394 or email us for more information.

TINS & CARTONS OF DOG FOOD WANTED
(also pilchards in tomato sauce, sardines and tuna in oil
,
dog biscuits, Dentastix
and rawhide chews)

If anyone would like to donate tins or cartons of dog meat or tinned pilchards and sardines for the greyhounds in our keeping until they find good homes we would be most grateful. Although we feed them a 'complete' greyhound food, tinned and cartons of dog meat gives variety to their diet along with gravy bones, dog biscuits, Dentastix and rawhide chews. May we thank all of you who have made a donation - it is much appreciated and the greyhounds love it!

Please telephone Jenny or Stuart on 015395 52394

Jenny and Stuart's hounds - gone but not forgotten

George in 1997
George introduced us to the world
of hounds. Arriving in April 1997
he had been badly treated and
was about 9 years old. Sadly we
only had him 3½ months when
he died. He was our first true love.
He was our
'Gentleman George'.

Solo - brindle greyhoun
Solo melted our heart the moment
he walked through the door - he is
the one who helped heal the
wounds following Bobby's death.
Sadly Solo passed away on the
12th February 2014 aged 7 years
9 months old.

Bobby and Penny
Bobby and Penny arrived the
day after George died.
FOSTERING GREYHOUNDS

DARLING
PENNY
who died in
February 2004 aged nearly
12½ years old. Bobby passed
away on 26th April 2009
aged 13 years 10 months.
Indi in March 2005
When Penny died Bobby
chose Indi as his new
companion and here she
is in March 2005. She helped
us foster nearly 340 dogs.
Indi passed away on the 20th July
2015 aged 14 years 3 months.
