white and black greyhound

Marshal is a large stunning white and black greyhound who was born in 2009 and weighs 35.6k. He travels well in a car, is house trained, neutered, inoculated and microchipped. Marshal is a happy and friendly dog who arrived here from a dog pound with 'issues' that by fostering we couldn't sort out. As a result he was moved into rescue kennels where a trainer could give him formal exercise routines and gallops to get rid of his pent-up energies and anxieties. He is now a changed dog - loves going for walks, rides in the car and visiting the pub - he is ready to go to his forever home - Can you help us find him that home?

Fawn Greyhound

Treacle
(RESERVED)

Treacle is a handsome fawn gentleman who was born in August 2007, and weighs 31.9k. He is house trained, neutered, had a dental, and is microchipped and inoculated.
Treacle is a very affectionate and friendly lad who loves kisses, cuddles and belly rubs. He walks nicely on the lead, adores children, is okay with other breeds of dogs, loves to lay in the garden in the sunshine and travels well in the car.

Treacle is going to his new home at the end of May.

Black Greyhound

Charlie is a lovely black ex-racing greyhound who was born on the 14th September 2009. He weighs 32.8k is neutered, inoculated, microchipped and recently had a dental. Charlie loves playing with toys, is a really friendly, playful and loveable chap, but he can get quite anxious at times and from what we've seen so far he is fine with other breeds of dogs, but he has yet to see small ones such as terriers. Charlie is in our kennel at the moment waiting for a space in a foster home, but during the day he comes into the house with the others. Charlie has come on a long, long way since he arrived last November and needs a home that can understand him and continue the work we started - Can you help us find him that new home?

Black Greyhound

Darcy
(RESERVED)

Darcy is a handsome black ex-racing Greyhound who was born on the 1st May 2008. He is housetrained, neutered, microchipped and inoculated.
Darcy has a lovely, gentle nature who adores being cuddled. He walks nicely on the lead, travels well in the car and is fine with children.

Darcy is going to his new home at the end of May.

Blue Greyhound

MORGAN
(RESERVED)
Morgan is a blue ex-racing Greyhound who has just arrived, and who we are told is very friendly, and fine with other dogs, passing them while out walking without taking a second look, but this we will double check.
Morgan was born on the 5th July 2008 and is now neutered, inoculated and microchipped. When he arrived his coat and areas of his skin wasn't in the best of condition, but as time is passing it is improving by the day.

Black greyhound

Beauty
(RESERVED)
Beauty is a small black ex-racing greyhound who was born on the 14th August 2006. She was with her ex- owner and trainer since a pup, and she is Bess's sister.
Beauty is, as her name says, a beauty. She is friendly, walks nicely on the lead and travels well in the car - Can you help us find her a new forever home?

Sooty
Sooty is a beautiful black ex-racing greyhound who was born on the 5th July 2010. She weighs about 28k and from what we've been told she is small dog friendly, but this we will need to confirm.
Sooty
started a season around the 16th May so is staying in her kennels until it has run its course. She will be coming here to be fostered as soon as her season finishes. Sooty will need spaying 3 months after it finishes so if she is re-homed before then arrangements can be made for the RGT to pay for this. - Can you help us find her a new home?

Lena
Lena is a lovely black and white greyhound who didn't make the grade for racing. She was born on the 9th June 2011 and weighs about 27k.
Lena
is coming here to be fostered on Thursday 23rd May - Can you help us find her a new home?

Darkie is a handsome black ex-racing greyhound who was born in September 2008 and weighs approximately 28k.
Darkie
is a friendly lad who loves being stroked and has a nice temperament. However, he is not cat friendly.
Currently with his trainer he is coming here shortly to be fostered but can be re-homed at any time. - Can you help us find him a new home?

Another greyhound is coming shortly - Can you help us find him or her a new home?

MORE GREYHOUNDS ARRIVING SOON.
In addition to the Greyhounds mentioned above we always have a number of others waiting to arrive as soon as space becomes available for them. We also have a further 20 or so others who are presently in another Retired Greyhound Trust rescue kennel awaiting their forever home. If we don't have a greyhound in foster care that is suitable for your family we have others in the kennels who will be. If you would like to re-home a Greyhound please contact us for more information.
Goldie is our 1st long-term foster dog

Fawn Greyhound

PLEASE contact us to sponser Goldie during her twilight years.

Goldie
because of her age (born January 2001) and her injured back leg, which makes her walk on her knuckle is now living in a long-term foster home with Julia and Peter and their Greyhound Rosie. Here she will stay being loved and spoilt during her twilight years.
Meg is our 2nd long-term foster dog

Black greyhound

PLEASE contact us to sponser Meg who is ill with kidney disease.
Meg because she is ill is staying with us, and we will care for herand where she will be loved and cherished because after all she's been through in her life she really didn't deserve this blow. Meg is small black ex-racing greyhound who was born in 2003, and has a lovely, shy and gentle nature.
Tam is our 3rd long-term foster dog

Black and white Greyhound

Tam because of his age (born 6th September 2002) is now living in a long-term foster home with Donna and Ric and their labrador called Milo and greyhound called Josh. Here he will stay being loved and spoilt during his twilight years.

ABOUT US:
We've had greyhounds since April 1997 and between July 2004 and November 2009 we fostered 82 greyhounds for Dumfriesshire and Cumbria Greyhound Rescue. At the beginning of December 2009 we began fostering for the Retired Greyhound Trust (RGT) and established their SOUTH LAKES branch. We have now fostered in excess of 200.
Being in the South Lakes we are situated at the southern end of the English Lake District in Cumbria at Witherslack, which is half way between Kendal and Grange-over-Sands. As fosterers it is our passion to help greyhounds through the transition stage from kennels to home life, helping them to adapt to the family way of life and being part of our family until they find their forever homes .

WHY ADOPT A GREYHOUND?

Greyhounds make wonderful pets. They are for life, not just for racing. They all deserve a second chance. Greyhounds are elegent, very intelligent, tend to be laid back,
lazy if given the chance, need little exercise, often just two, half hour walks a day. Greyhounds thrive on love and affection, adapt quickly to the family way of life and make very gentle and loyal pets.

Over 40,000 Greyhounds are bred each year in the UK and Ireland and thousands of Greyhound puppies and youngsters are put to sleep because they don't make the grade for racing. The average age of a Greyhound coming into 'Rescue' is 3 to 4 years old when they are no longer needed. However, the normal life expectancy of a Greyhound is between 12 and 15 years - the longest living of the larger breeds of dog means they have many years ahead of them once they are no longer needed for racing Only a very small percentage are the lucky ones who are re-homed.

ARE YOU ABLE TO FOSTER FOR US?

Fosterers are an invaluable part of greyhound rescue in that another greyhound is living life away from the kennels and taking the first steps to getting used to the family way of life. If you live in the South Lakes or the surrounding area and would like to foster a greyhound until it finds a new home.
please telephone: Jenny or Stuart on 015395 52394 or email us for more information.

TINS & CARTONS OF DOG MEAT WANTED
(also pilchards in tomato sauce and sardines and
tuna in oil)

If anyone would like to donate tins or cartons of dog meat or tinned pilchards and sardines for the greyhounds in our keeping until they find good homes we would be most grateful. Although we feed them a 'complete' greyhound food, tinned and cartons of dog meat gives variety to their diet. May we thank all of you who have made a donation - it is much appreciated and the greyhounds love it!

Please telephone
Jenny or Stuart on 015395 52394
or email us

WOOL TO KNIT DOG COATS WANTED

We have ladies knitting snuggle coats for us and we are looking for wool to make these. The money raised from selling the coats is used to look after and help find homes for the greyhounds we foster while they are looking for their forever homes. The snuggle coats are hand knitted and ideal for those cooler days in Spring and Autumn and for those greyhounds who like to be wrapped up warm at night. Please telephone Jenny or Stuart on 015395 52394 or email us.

CAR BOOT, BRIC-A-BRAC & OTHER ITEMS WANTED

If anyone living local to the South Lakes and North Lancashier has anything they don't want (large or small) that we can sell at car boot sales and on stalls please contact us. All the money raised is used by the South Lakes branch of the Retired Greyhound Trust, a registered charity (no. 296668) to care for and find new homes for the ex-racing and unwanted greyhounds in our care.

Please telephone Jenny or Stuart on 015395 52394 or email us.

Please telephone Christine 07963 362 257 if you live in the Carnforth area

FOSTERING GREYHOUNDS
IS OUR MEMORIAL TO OUR
DARLING
PENNY
who died
in February 2004 aged nearly
12½ years old.

Fawn Lurcher
George introduced us to the world
of hounds. He arrived in April 1997
and was about 9 years old when
he was rescued. He had been
badly treated and sadly we only
had him 3½ months when he died.
He was our first true love and he
was our 'Gentleman George'.
