Black Greyhound

Maisie is a beautiful black greyhound who was born in August 2009 and has a lovely sweet, gentle and friendly nature. A lovely girl who just adores being cuddled all the time.
Maisie is house trained, spayed, inoculated and microchipped. She is still a bit of a thief when it comes to food laying around, and if the opportunity is there she will take it. She travels well in the car and walks nicely on the lead. - Can you help us find her a new home?

black Greyhound

Bonnie is a lovely black ex-racing greyhound who was born June 2008. She is house trained, spayed, inoculated and microchipped. Recently she had a dental when 3 loose teeth were removed and the rest cleaned.
Bonnie is a very happy girl who is always wagging her tail, wanting cuddles and playing with her toys and tennis balls. She is a very affectionate girl who walks nicely on the lead and travels well in the car. - Can you help us find her a new home?

Black Greyhound

Molly
(RESERVED)
Molly and Aero have lived in kennels together for some time and get on really well together. Molly is a black ex-racing greyhound who was born in 2009. She has been in a house before, and is inoculated and microchipped. She was due to be spayed when she arrived, but came into season the morning after, so she took a trip to the vets to be suppressed and will be spayed in the middle of June. If Molly has been re-homed by then she can either come to our vets to have her operation or we can arrange to get it done at her new owner's vet.
Molly is a happy, friendly girl who walks okay on the lead, and travels well in the car, but we are not sure as yet what she is like with other breeds of dogs. - Can you help us find her a new forever home?

White greyhound

Popi is arriving soon. She is a beautiful white ex-racing greyhound who has a little blue around her ears. Born on the 22nd April 2007.
Popi looks like a 'show dog' who is about 2 years old. She weighs 27.5k, is house trained, has no agression whatsoever, is good with children, travels well in the car and from what we have been told she is okay with other breeds of dogs. She may pull a litle when she sees them but this is because she wants to say hello, and will stay by your side if told to do so.
(Re-homed: Saturday 19th April 2014)

Black Greyhound

Ebony is a lovely black ex-racing greyhound who was born on the 14th August 2006. She has been with the same owner and trainer since a pup, and she is Beauty and Bess's litter sister.
Ebony is spayed, walks nicely on the lead, travels well in the car. She is an adorable girl who has a beautiful friendly nature and loves affection. - Can you help us find her a new home?

Black Greyhound

Nero is a handsome black greyhound who only trialed once before breaking his leg. This has been repaired, he's had physio and he's fine to be re-homed, but he is unable to sustain the pressures of racing again.
Nero was born in February 2012, and is neutered - Can you help us find him a new home?

Black Greyhound

Rex

Rex is a good looking black ex-racing greyhound, who through no fault of his own has been in rescue kennels the past 2 years. As the kennels no longer operate we were asked if we could have him here because he was becoming depressed so he will stay with us and enjoy foster care until we find him his forever home. - Can you help us find him that home?

Black Greyhound

Blackie
(now called Ajax
)

Ajax is a lovely, friendly black is a 2 year old black ex-racing greyhound who has been through a bit of a tough time.
He is microchipped, and his previous owner/trainer had 2 cats whom he may have seen wandering around the kennels. He's seen other breeds of dogs when out walking and travels well in the car. - Can you help us find him a new home?

Dream
Dream is part of his racing name and he's known it since being a pup. He is an ex-racing greyhound who is arriving shortly as soon as arrangements are made to get him here.
Dream is black with a white chest, born on the 7th October 2010, he is microchipped and inoculated. We've been told he has a nice temperament, travels well in the car and walks nicely on the lead.
- Can you help us find him a new home?

Brindle Greyhound

Becky
Becky is arriving shortly. She is a beautiful fawn brindle ex-racing greyhound who was born on the 2nd May 2004. We have been told she is fit and well and doesn't look her age. She is okay with other breeds of dogs, but not suitable for a home with cats.
Becky is house trained. Having lived with an elderly gentleman for the past 4 months she is sadly being returned to rescue because of the deterioration of her owner's health. She is coming here as it is felt that fostering as opposed to kenneling is in her best interest - Can you help us find her a new home?

Black and white greyhound

Jo
Jo is arriving here shortly as soon as a foster space is available, but she is available for re-homing.
Jo is a black and white female ex-racing greyhound who was born in September 2008 and weighs in the region of 27k. We have been told she is good with children and other breeds of dogs, and walks nicely on the lead by your side, but she is not suitable for a home with cats. - Can you help us find her a new home?

soon

Jack

Jack is arriving shortly as soon as a foster space is available, but he is available for re-homing.
Jack is a black ex-racing greyhound who was born on the 20th August 2008. He weighs about 36k, is quite a strong dog and would need someone with greyhound experience to re-home him. He is good natured, okay with children, clean in his kennel and walks alright on the lead. However, we have been told he doesn't like other dogs running towards him, but he is okay if they leave him alone, and he's not too good with the smaller breeds. As with all the retired Greyhounds they deserve a loving forever home and Jack is no different. - Can you help us find him a new home?

Black greyhound

Eli

Eli is arriving shortly as soon as a foster space is available, but he is available for re-homing.
Eli is a black ex-racing greyhound who weighs 31k, was born in January 2008, has a nice temperament and is in a good condition. - Can you help us find him a new home?

Another greyhound is coming shortly - Can you help us find him or her a new home?

If you see a Greyhound listed above as waiting to come here once
a foster home is available no longer listed, it is because the dog
has either been re-homed direct by it's owner or trainer or,
it has gone into another rescue centre who had a space.

MORE GREYHOUNDS ARRIVING SOON.
In addition to the Greyhounds mentioned above we always have a number of others waiting to arrive as soon as space becomes available for them. We also have a further 20 or so others who are presently in another Retired Greyhound Trust rescue kennel awaiting their forever home. If you would like to re-home a Greyhound please contact us for more information.
Goldie is a long-term foster dog

Fawn Greyhound

PLEASE contact us to sponser Goldie during her twilight years.

Goldie
because of her age (born January 2001) and her injured back leg, which makes her walk on her knuckle is now living in a long-term foster home with Julia and Peter and their Greyhound Rosie. Here she will stay being loved and spoilt during her twilight years.
Tam is a long-term foster dog

Black and white Greyhound

Tam because of his age (born 6th September 2002) is now living in a long-term foster home with Donna and Ric and their labrador called Milo and greyhound called Josh. Here he will stay being loved and spoilt during his twilight years.

ABOUT US:
We've had greyhounds since April 1997 and between July 2004 and November 2009 we fostered 82 greyhounds for Dumfriesshire and Cumbria Greyhound Rescue. At the beginning of December 2009 we began fostering for the Retired Greyhound Trust (RGT) and established their SOUTH LAKES branch. We have now fostered in excess of 250.
Being in the South Lakes we are situated at the southern end of the English Lake District in Cumbria at Witherslack, which is half way between Kendal and Grange-over-Sands. As fosterers it is our passion to help greyhounds through the transition stage from kennels to home life, helping them to adapt to the family way of life and being part of our family until they find their forever homes .

WHY ADOPT A GREYHOUND?

Greyhounds make wonderful pets. They are for life, not just for racing. They all deserve a second chance. Greyhounds are elegent, very intelligent, tend to be laid back,
lazy if given the chance, need little exercise, often just two, half hour walks a day. Greyhounds thrive on love and affection, adapt quickly to the family way of life and make very gentle and loyal pets.

Over 40,000 Greyhounds are bred each year in the UK and Ireland and thousands of Greyhound puppies and youngsters are put to sleep because they don't make the grade for racing. The average age of a Greyhound coming into 'Rescue' is 3 to 4 years old when they are no longer needed. However, the normal life expectancy of a Greyhound is between 12 and 15 years - the longest living of the larger breeds of dog means they have many years ahead of them once they are no longer needed for racing Only a very small percentage are the lucky ones who are re-homed.

ARE YOU ABLE TO FOSTER A
GREYHOUND
FOR US?

Fosterers are an invaluable part of greyhound rescue in that another greyhound is living life away from the kennels and taking the first steps to getting used to the family way of life. If you live in the South Lakes or the surrounding area and would like to foster a greyhound until it finds a new home.
please telephone:
Jenny or Stuart on 015395 52394 or email us for more information.

TINS & CARTONS OF DOG MEAT WANTED

,
dog biscuits,
Dentastix

If anyone would like to donate tins or cartons of dog meat or tinned pilchards and sardines for the greyhounds in our keeping until they find good homes we would be most grateful. Although we feed them a 'complete' greyhound food, tinned and cartons of dog meat gives variety to their diet along with gravy bones, dog biscuits, Dentastix and rawhide chews. May we thank all of you who have made a donation - it is much appreciated and the greyhounds love it!

White and black Greyhound
Lena came into our lives
on the 23rd May 2013.
She is a beautiful greyhound
with a sweet nature, and not
quite 2 years old she was not
wanted because she didn't
make the grade for racing.
She raced headlong into our
hearts and home. Having just
lost Meg she is a little
girl to keep Indi company
in her old age.

Fawn Greyhound
Sandy who we gave the friendly nickname of 'the beast'. On holiday in Ireland 12th February 2008. In August 2008 we adopted him

Indi in March 2005
When Penny died Bobby
chose Indi as his new
companion and here she
is in March 2005

Solo - brindle greyhoun
Solo melted our heart the second he walked through the door and we adopted him - he is the one who helped heal the wounds following Bobby's death on the 26th April 2009. Sadly Solo passed away on the 12th February 2014.

FOSTERING GREYHOUNDS
IS OUR MEMORIAL TO OUR
DARLING
PENNY
who died
in February 2004 aged nearly
12½ years old.

Fawn Lurcher
George introduced us to the world
of hounds. He arrived in April 1997
and was about 9 years old when
he was rescued. He had been
badly treated and sadly we only
had him 3½ months when he died.
He was our first true love and he
was our 'Gentleman George'.
