Ned - Black Greyhound

Ned

Ned is a lovely black ex-racing Greyhound who was born on the 10th August 2010.
Ned is 100% perfect in the house, is a very friendly, affectionate lad who loves nothing more than sleeping on our bed and cuddling up! He is house trained, neutered, inoculated and microchipped.
Nedwalks nicely on the lead and loves travelling in a car. WE ARE LOOKING FOR A VERY SPECIAL HOME FOR NED, a home away from too many other breeds of dogs on his regular walks - before arriving here he was attacked by 2 off lead labradoodles who have now made him frightened of dogs if they come inside his comfort zone causing him to cry and want to escape or give the appearance of being agressive. He is petrified and shakes badly if he sees too many or they come too close. - Can you help us find him that special home?

Robbie - Black Greyhound

Robbie is a large stunning black ex-racing greyhound who was born in November 2010.
He is house trained, neutered, inoculated, microchipped.
Robbie had a few issues when he first arrived and often looked very sad. He is a now a really super dog who loves to play, adores cuddles, is 100% perfect in the house and if working in the garden he will follow you around or sit closeby, he just loves being with you. Robbie is okay with children and travelling in the car. He went through a phase where he was fascinated with the television, computer screens and mobile phones, but that has passed now and he's quite happy to watch the television if it's on.
He walks lovely on a lead and is beginning to watch other dogs out and about who don't come inside his comfort zone, are not running around off lead or jumping around on the lead. This activity makes him anxious, but we believe the more dogs he sees will help and he is slowy getting better.
Robbie is a fantastic dog and will make someone a super, loyal companion. - Can you help us find him that home?

Dougal - black Greyhound

Dougal is a friendly, playful black ex-racing greyhound who has no earmarkings but was born in 2012. He weighs 28.9k, is house trained, neutered, inoculated and microchipped.
Dougal is playful, loves a fuss, his toys, tennis balls and 'puppy plays' with the other greyhounds here, nibbling and rubbing his face alongside theirs and playing rather submissively with them. He walks lovely on the lead, travels well in the car but can get a little excited when he sees other breeds of dogs, which we believe is playful rather than anything else, and is something that is getting better - Can you help us find him a new home?

Pearly - black greyhound

Pearly was re-homed in August 2011, but because of his owner's decline in health it was felt in Pearly's best interest he come back to us and we find him a new home where he will stay through his twilight years. Pearly is a happy lad who is 9 years old and weighs 27.10k .
- Can you help us find him his new forever home?

Mojo - black greyhound

Mojo is a black ex-racing greyhound who was born on the 11th July 2013 and weighs 28.5k. He has a very calm and placid nature, is fine with children and used to seeing his ex-owner / trainer's small dogs around the kennels.
Mojo is house trained, neutered, inoculated and microchipped. He's a super dog, loves playing with his toys especially his tennis balls which he throws in the air to catch, walks lovely on the lead and travels well in a car. - Can you help us find him a new home?

Rummy - black greyhound

Jewel is a black ex-racing greyhound who was born on 6th February 2013 and weighs about 32k. Jewel formerly called Rummy was only with his previous owner / trainer about a month and we were told he was so timid he wouldn't come from his kennel. In view of this we felt it in his best interest he came here sooner than later. Here, Jewel is fine, shows no signs of being timid, joins in with the others and is constantly wagging his tail, playing with all the toys around the place or sleeping nice and relaxed on one of the dog beds. He's a lovely dog and will make someone a super companion - Can you help us find him a new home?

Rory - Black Greyhound

Rory has sadly been returned to us through no real fault of his own and is once again looking for his forever home. He is a black ex-racing greyhound who is house trained, neutered, inoculated, microchipped and recently had a dental.
Rory is a super dog who walks nicely on the lead, has a lovely nature and travels well in a car. - Can you help us find him a new home?

ABOUT US:
We've had greyhounds since April 1997 and between July 2004 and November 2009 we fostered 82 greyhounds for Dumfriesshire and Cumbria Greyhound Rescue. At the beginning of December 2009 we began fostering for the Retired Greyhound Trust (RGT) and established their SOUTH LAKES branch. We have now fostered in excess of 350.
Being in the South Lakes we are situated at the southern end of the English Lake District in Cumbria at Witherslack, which is half way between Kendal and Grange-over-Sands. As fosterers it is our passion to help greyhounds through the transition stage from kennels to home life, helping them to adapt to the family way of life and being part of our family until they find their forever homes .

WHY ADOPT A GREYHOUND?

Greyhounds make wonderful pets. They are for life, not just for racing. They all deserve a second chance. Greyhounds are elegent, very intelligent, tend to be laid back,
lazy if given the chance, need little exercise, often just two, half hour walks a day. Greyhounds thrive on love and affection, adapt quickly to the family way of life and make very gentle and loyal pets.

Over 40,000 Greyhounds are bred each year in the UK and Ireland and thousands of Greyhound puppies and youngsters are put to sleep because they don't make the grade for racing. The average age of a Greyhound coming into 'Rescue' is 3 to 4 years old when they are no longer needed. However, the normal life expectancy of a Greyhound is between 12 and 15 years - the longest living of the larger breeds of dog means they have many years ahead of them once they are no longer needed for racing Only a very small percentage are the lucky ones who are re-homed.

CURRENT
GREYHOUNDS

Fawn Greyhound
Sandy who we nicknamed
'the beast' arrrived here on the
4th November 2007. In August
2008 we adopted him.

White and black Greyhound
Lena came into our lives
on the 23rd May 2013. Not
quite 2 years old she didn't
make the grade for racing,
but she raced headlong
into our hearts and home.

Fawn Greyhound

Star came into our lives on the 18th October 2015. When our 4 month old grand daughter cried for her bottle, he came over and rested his head on her shoulder and within a minute she was calm. It sealed his future with us.

Jenny and Stuart's hounds - gone but not forgotten

George in 1997
George introduced us to the world
of hounds. Arriving in April 1997
he had been badly treated and
was about 9 years old. Sadly we
only had him 3½ months when
he died. He was our first true love.
He was our
'Gentleman George'.

Solo - brindle greyhoun
Solo melted our heart the moment
he walked through the door - he is
the one who helped heal the
wounds following Bobby's death.
Sadly Solo passed away on the
12th February 2014 aged 7 years
9 months old.

Bobby and Penny
Bobby and Penny arrived the
day after George died.
FOSTERING GREYHOUNDS
IS OUR MEMORIAL TO OUR
DARLING
PENNY
who died in
February 2004 aged nearly
12½ years old. Bobby passed
away on 26th April 2009
aged 13 years 10 months.
Indi in March 2005
When Penny died Bobby
chose Indi as his new
companion and here she
is in March 2005. She helped
us foster nearly 340 dogs.
Indi passed away on the 20th July
2015 aged 14 years 3 months.
