About my diaries |

On our web site each dog whether it be our own or a foster dog has its own page containing a brief history about them along with photographs, their diary during their stay with us and finding a new home, news from their new owners if and when we receive anything and information about when we see them after they are rehomed or if they come to stay with us for any reason.
Why produce a diary some people ask. Well, its so we can remember our dogs - what they were like when they first arrived, how quickly they settled in and the ups and downs along the way. Unfortunately, some come back to us because it doesn't work out and more often than not they are not to blame so we start looking again for the right home for them. We don't like them coming back to us but we are only human and make mistakes like everyone else and in this age of the 'disposable' the 'fashion accessory' and wanting 'the perfect' pet from the start makes our work all that much harder. It's also nice to hear how they are getting on in their new home and remembering the occasions we see or hear from them out and about thereafter.
One of our regular readers said he enjoyed our diaries because they were like reading a good John Grisham novel or watching an episode of Desperate Housewives. Our diaries, as with many diaries, tend to miss out the boring, everyday things when nothing much happens and includes the days containing memorable events, whether they be good or bad and note items that we want to remember about that particular dog and items that will help the dog's new owner in their new home.
When reading the diaries please remember that we have a policy that if any home doesn't work out for our foster dogs, whether it's as a result of one of our home checks or another members' home check then that dog comes back to us. It's traumatic enough for a dog to go through the kenneling, adoption and rehoming process let alone knowing they are not really wanted before they are returned to us. In coming back to us rather than into a kennel or to another fosterer, we feel, enables them to settle down again much faster after the trauma and this helps in the re-homing process.
As we have been fostering for some time and at the time of writing we are currently fostering numbers 35 and 36 we sometimes feel we tend to be given the dogs that are not always straight forward. The easy straight forward ones are often rehomed straight from the kennels or given to the less experienced fosterers so when reading our diaries please bear this in mind.
Our diaries are not produced to criticize anyone they are just there so we can remember each and every one of the dogs in our care and, hopefully by allowing others to share them may help them with their dogs if they see similarities in circumstances.

Well it's finally happened. I knew it would eventually although I kept pushing the idea to the back of my mind. But why, oh why, so soon. Today our darling Paddy passed away and oh I am just so grateful for all the hours I sit keeping my diaries and for all the thousands upon thousands of photographs Stuart takes of the dogs because without my diaries fond memories and the trials and tribulations would soon become hazy and eventually fade - in loving memory. |
