FOSTERING GREYHOUNDS
IN CUMBRIA FOR
GREYHOUND RESCUE

Below is one of the 82 dogs we fostered for Dumfriesshire & Cumbria
Greyhound Rescue between July 2004 and the 5th December 2009.
On the 9th December 2009 we became the SOUTH LAKES branch
of the Retired Greyhound Trust for whom we are now foster
ing.

Kell
(Now called Kelly)

Kell arrived on Sunday 21st September 2008

Kell's Diary
21st September 2008
When Kell walked through the door of our house he happily greeted our
Greyhounds, wanted to play with Bobby and Indi but were told not at the moment and to behave himself.
24th September 2004
Kell loves meeting new dogs and gets quite excited at the prospect of saying hello. This morning one of our guests staying in our bed and breakfast came to ask if she could get her Collie from our garden. They were staying in the room with the private balcony and when her Collie Pip saw Kell in the garden he wanted to go and say hello so climbed through the railings to join him in our garden. They were having a wail of a time running around and exploring the garden together and did so whilst we watched for about 20 minutes before I took Kell inside for his breakfast. When Stuart did the railings we made it Greyhound proof in that ours wouldn't want to walk down the bank and climb onto the balcony to disturb our guests or possibly get out if the balcony gate had been left open. However, we hadn't tested it the other way round so needless to say Stuart will be 'tweaking' the balcony railings today. It's not that we mind our guest's dogs playing in the garden with ours, but with doing fostering we have to be careful of new foster Greyhounds so we need to feel sure that if a new one arrives that we know nothing about then we know we can safely let it in the garden and everything will be okay until we've had time to assess him or her properly.

4th October 2008
This afternoon we did a home check not far from here and as Kell was our present foster dog we took him in with us. Kell must have felt relaxed because having checked everything out and saying hello to the people we came to see he then lay on the floor on his back with legs in the air and went to sleep!
6th October 2008
This afternoon one of Kell's new owners called in and collected him. Once all the adoption paperwork was completed he climbed onto the back seat of her car along with his new bed and lay down. Kell was a really nice happy Greyhound and we shall miss him wanting to play with the others all the time. However, we wish him well and hope he has a long and happy life with his new owners who don't live all that far from us so hopefully, we might see him from time to time.

Kell is now called Kelly.

11th May 2009
Received an email this afternoon from Kelly's owners letting us know he is doing really well. They have now fenced the garden off so he can't get out because of the layout of the stream at the bottom and had a pheasant the other day. They say they think he fancied it for his dinner! He's really brought a lot of joy to them and gets on with their daughter's dogs when  they come to visit.
Christmas 2009
We received a Christmas card from Kelly's owners letting us know Kelly is doing fine and is very loved.
